Pat McGrath Labs ~ Mothership V Bronze Seduction | Review

Pat McGrath Labs released the fifth installment to the "Mothership" palette collection and alongside the fourth palette in the collection, this one was a must have for me as the shades are so wearable and align nicely with my favorite tones for both every day and every night wear.

I really can't capture these swatches the way I wish I could. I promise you, they are much more intricate and beautiful than they appear to be on my forearm. Especially the "special" shades, Astral Luna Gold and VR Fire Opal, (the two shadows on the right side of the palette). These two shades are multi-dimensional and can really transform a look. I like to use them to brighten up the inner corner of my eye, dab just a little on the lid if I'm doing a heavier eye look and I want to add some depth and light to the lid, or even under the brow bone. I use my Nudestix Concealer Pencil to make my under brow bone area tacky so there's no fallout, then I add the eyeshadow.

These "special" shadows, like any of the Pat McGrath glittery shadows, have fallout so you will look like a fairy lightly dusted with pixie dust when you’re done applying. To note, I apply shades with glitter or any kind of sparkle with my finger 90% of the time and I also use my M.A.C. Paint Pot to make my eyelid tacky before applying glitter. I don't even let the Paint Pot dry down, I just apply more to my eyelid and immediately add the eyeshadow so it sticks. A glitter glue will work to, or even a wet brush.

I do wish that Pat McGrath sold her special shades separately because some of her other 10-pan palettes I know I wouldn’t use many of the shades but the special shades . . . I do want those to go alongside other palettes, like my matte Viseart palettes (my favorite “workhorse” palettes). I just want to collect all the "special" shades but, for obvious reasons, am unwilling to buy all the full-sized palettes just for those =P

Your two basic mattes are Entrapment and Disobedient, with Xtreme Aubergine being your deeper purple-brown matte. Entrapment and Disobedient I use nicely in my crease or outer V. The Pat McGrath formula for mattes is one of my favorites. They are densely packed but not hard, they still maintain quite a bit of softness but are not powdery (like the Anastasia Beverly Hills formula which I do also enjoy). The real thing I love about the formula of these Mothership palettes is how easily they blend without blending away. I can use one matte shade for my crease, outer v, and transition shade depending on how much I blend it out. This is a very easy to work with formula and it makes the lack of neutral matte shadows OK in my book.

The darker matte for me is better for the lower lashline or the outer v for a more blown out smoky look (ie, not ideal for the corporate office lifestyle). It looks really nice on the eyelid with a "special" shadow on top though!

Blitz Flame, the fabulous red shade that probably draws the most interest to this palette, is fantastic. I’m super into red shades on the lid lately (mattes, glitters, satins, whatever, I’m not picky) is in right now and I’m hella into it. This shade delivers exactly what you are hoping it will—it’s stunning and somehow wearable even though it can easily be over-the-top-glam. I wear it to the office, I just can't help myself that's how bomb this shadow is. With a black blouse, or a black hoodie on the weekends, I am ready to take on the world with my fabulous red eyeshadow.

Rose Gold 005 has a lot of fallout, so be prepared for that. It's more noticeable fallout than the "special" shades which sort of just give you this lovely pixie-fairy sort of look. This is really my one critique of these palettes is that the glittery shades are stunning but fallout is still a thing. Unsure if we will ever really be able to escape fallout with super glittery shades without the use of a tacky base, but it is what it is, I still adore all my glittery friends just the same.
