Holiday 2017 Lip Sets! ~ Feat. NARS, Bite Beauty & Fresh
The holiday season has kicked off and a plethora of products have been announced, released, teased, you name it, it's that time of product hype and overload!
During the holidays, brands tend to release rinse-and-repeat collections that are "sort of" similar to those of previous years and "sort of" different. Some of these are definitely worth the purchase, either for yourself or for a gift. In this post, I'll cover some of the first things that have been released that I've bought and tried.
I unfortunately missed the Sephora Rouge Preview Event due to germies, so I ordered the products on my wishlist (and then some) from the comfort of my own bed.
This is a Limited Edition set of 4 full-size velvet matte lip pencils. It includes 2 new, limited edition shades and 2 existing shades: Endangered Red, Toundra, Wild Ways, Spell Bound.
This collection is great if you like lip pencil products. Unfortunately, the NARS Lip pencils are not retractable so be sure to use a NARS pencil sharpener to sharpen this product ($6 at Sephora). I personally hate anything I have to manually sharpen, but the quality and the formula of these pencils is quite good so I make an exception.
While I do find this particular set wearable and I like the shade range, some of them are just a little too on the sheer side for me. For me, I only ended up really liking Endangered Red and Wild Ways. Spell Bound has a bit of glitter which I appreciate, especially around the holidays, but it was too sheer and the payout just wasn't great. The other 3 are matte. Wild Ways I really like but it's too sheer; I ended up having to put multiple layers on to get it to show up on my fairly pale lips. Same with Toundra; a bit sheer and doesn't apply evenly. Endangered Red applied well but not enough to compensate for the performance of the other three. Overall, the performance of application just didn't impress me, but the lasting time of all four is really good.
I really enjoy lip pencils. I sometimes have difficulty applying liquid and even bullet lipsticks to my lips evenly and smoothly. Pencils make it super easy, I really can't mess up. I have tried many of these Velvet Matte Lip Pencils from the permanent collection and I think those perform better than the ones in this gift set. If you're interested in trying one of these, I would suggest just buying one from the permanent collection.
This set is $49.
Bite Beauty does lip sets every year and I picked up the mini Amuse Bouche lipstick set. The smaller set, which released during the Sephora Rouge Preview Event, I skipped because while the lipstick peaked my interest, I'm not into multiples or lip products that require sharpening. I do know that many of my friends and makeup enthusiasts adore this type of set though and they are often the first to be out of stock during the initial launch.
While the packaging of this set isn't over-the-top for the holidays, it's a good collection for someone who might be into makeup and is starting out their collection. You get 4 shades:
This is a well rounded set that provides options while being completely wearable. Do note that each lipstick is a mini (not full size). They are small, especially upon first glance they are the equivalent of a deluxe size of most other lipsticks.
Bite Beauty products are known for their natural ingredients and the pink lemonade that accompanies their lip products. They are super creamy and are touted by many as being the best lipstick formula.
This set is $25
I bought this for gifts for friends and family. These little, miniature lip treatments are perfect Stocking Stuffers. In this set, you get 6 Sugar Lip Treatments in Original, Tulip, Rose, Poppy, Honey and Berry. Each is tinted and provides sheer color, hydration, and protection from the sun (SPF 15). You also get 2 colored pencils, I'm not entirely sure why. The tin itself is super cute and I will be keeping that for myself =)
I love these products as they are insanely hydrating, feel really good on the lips and are wonderful to just pop on at any time. I bought my mom a full-size one earlier this year and she loves it. Now her friend wants one too so I bought this set to divvy up into holiday gift bags. I may pick up a 2nd set, it's that good.
This set is $45
