MAC Cosmetics ~ Velvet Matte Lipstick Collection | New Products!

MAC launched a cool collection of vampy, dark lipsticks for the winter season. There are nine shades, each rich in color and consistent with MAC's signature matte lipstick formula. These are $17.50 (the same price as all permanent MAC lipsticks). They are Limited Edition, and I've seen them on MAC's website and Nordstrom.

I bought four of these: Beatrix, Powerhouse, Midnight Breeze, and Winifred. I didn't pick up any of the others as some of them looked like they pull a little too brown and right now, I'm a bit tapped out on brown lipsticks so I went for these instead and am very happy that I did!

Dark lipstick shades are very "in" this Fall and Winter season, and I'm digging it. I used to feel quite awkward wearing more bold colors on my lips. BUT NOT ANYMORE!

Winifred might actually be the most wearable shade of the four. It's also my favorite. It's a perfect grungy shade without going full on grey. I just love it. If you have recs on a dupe shade, please let me know!

Beatrix is probably the next most wearable shade as it's a deep, red-berry that is really perfect for Winter. Out of all of the four shades I bought, this one is probably the most easily duped. I think I have similar shades in my collection, but none from MAC and none quite as dark as this one. 

Midnight Breeze appears less purple on the lips than I had thought it would, or as it appears in the swatch above. I almost didn't buy it because I thought it might be a vibrant purple that I knew I would rarely reach for. I love that about this shade: it's purple without being TOO PURPLE.

Powerhouse is the most vampy imo. I love it because every time I try and pull off a black lipstick, I end up wanting something that's in the realm of black without being full on, straight up black. Black is too jarring on me. This shade appeals to my needs for vampyness but still compliments my skin tone.

Overall, I really enjoy these, more than I expected to. I find them quite wearable in terms of shade range and consistent with MACs regular matte lipstick formula. I kind of hope they make these permanent considering I'm pretty picky with dark lipsticks. These are just fun and I'm hooked on them. I wouldn't wear them to work though =P
